Hi, I'd like to replace the element on my kiln . Unfortunately, this is the only model that has a broken link to the wiring diagram on the Cress website.
I wonder if both my elements are in parallel or in series because I think I need to proceed differently to check the ohm.
Upon calling them , I found out that my element should have 9.8 ohm for the top and for the bottom one. Does that mean it is the same element on the top and bottom of my kiln? I know they can be different elements depending on their position in the kiln on some models. I just want to make sure they are the same , interchangeable on my model.
I've attached the diagram for the 2 closest kiln to mine , the B23 H 203 V and the B18 H 240 V.
It seems like they both have 2 coils , wired in parallel , so I want to assume mine is the same.
How do you check the ohm when the elements are wired in parallel ?

What are your thoughts on using earthenware for sculptures?
Would they be more brittle?
Can you get a glossy finish also with a clear glaze over underglaze colours?

Hey All - didn’t realize so many folks wanted the manual, never got any notifications for replies. I’ll find it asap and post it publicly here.
I would love that manual too!

Hi Neil,
I wondered about a thing you said.
You say : typically Cress has their coils heating differently from top to bottom. Mine having a different dial for the top and the bottom coil , is that a clue that they heat in the same way and that people can manually change the way they heat?
Thanks

Thanks .
is there a way I could check somehow that the coils are going at a different temperature, maybe with 2 cones ?

Sorry Neil, I am not sure what you mean by top ring.
The top coil goes to almost the top by the opening .
I am having trouble posting a picture of the inside but will try again later.
I want to fire to cone 6.

Hello,
I want to reduce my kiln size by disabling the bottom coil and filling the bottom of the kiln with insulating bricks.
If I then turn on the top coil dial only, should the the new kiln space get to temperature?
I have 2 dials that each control a coil.
I wish to use 12 amp when I fire instead of 24 amp to accommodate my household electricity needs.
I checked with the meter that it is the case:
1 coil =12 amps , 2 coils =20 amps
I also don't mind a small kiln space to fill the kiln more quickly.
Question: Am I effectively reducing the space but the kiln functions just as well?
Any advice ?

Thanks a lot!
I'm taking all of your tips and found diagram and will try to measure the ohm on my coils very soon.
