Awakening on Llullaillaco
Three children, frozen in their sleep during an Inca sacrificial rite at the top of the extinct Lllullaillaco volcano in northwestern Argentina, were brought down to Salta in 1999 and eventually installed in a museum built specifically for this purpose. The Maiden of Llullaillaco, the eldest of the three, aged about 15, was buried with bridal attire as an offering to the gods.
