A happy find in a porcelain body allowed me to fire hotter and draw cleanly on clay without the need to glaze over it. These drawings are experiments with underglaze pencil. It's been a lot of fun!
Having only fired in a wood kiln twice, I have enjoyed the camaraderie and results of wood firing. Being a grad student at SIUC has allowed me to experiment with different materials and techniques. The wood kiln asks for a willingness to think differently. Our kiln is on the small size and an arch style. The last firing took less than 24 hours but we were ash heavy!
