About Me

Originally from Scotland, hence the name, The Scottish Potter, acquired from customers over the years.
Been a potter for thirty-some years, including a stint in a floor tile factory, spent the last twelve working at Red Wing Pottery, but now working for myself out in the middle of Iowa.
Started out at Wetheriggs in England with Joff Snell, after college with tutors Mary Douglas, Mike Dodd and Jim Malone.
Wetheriggs taught me all about production work and traditional slip-trailing, which I continue, though seldom on earthenware which proved hard to sell here, due no doubt to the lead-poisoning panic of the nineties.
Lead bisilicate makes such a lovely glaze.
M.D. Taught me to approach each piece of ware with the user in mind. And while I might prefer utilitarianism, it is more the utility lent by traditional craftsmanship and fitness for purpose, than robot repetition.
