Empty Bowls In San Jose, Ca

Recommended Posts

dake-morrell@att.netGreetings Clay Artists!

An Empty Bowls Event is happening very soon here in San Jose, CA (Thanksgiving Eve). We have lots of room for donations of hand made work, otherwise we are force to substitute with store bought-then-donated items and it's just not the same.

After contacting several potters via websites since September, and getting only three responses, I am trying this venue at the suggestion of one of your fine members, who himself, is touched by the Empty Bowls idea.

HOW IT WORKS: We receive the bowls. The night of the event people arrive and donate 10 or more dollars, choose a bowl, the artists information /cards are kept with their bowls. We then fill the with a choice of delicious soups, offer home-made breads, and an evening of warmth and community. Several great chef-level cooks in our community donate the food. 100% of the proceeds go directly to feed the "temporarily hungry." This year we have chosen Martha's Kitchen as the recipient.

Last years was so successful that we ran out of bowls and people were willing to pay for paper cups full of soup just to be part of it. We gave $2000 to two kitchens last year!

Due to reduced potter response we sadly resorted to donated mass manufactured bowls. This year my intention is greater than ever to change that with your help!

Please contact Meghan Dake-Morrell at dake-morrell@att.net with any info or contact info on potters near here (or from anywhere but willing to send) who would like to donate.

Many thanks in advance.

Peace and abundant blessings,

Meghan
