Caly Surfaces with Ruth McKinney Burket

WSW

Recommended Posts

This week long workshop will cover various methods and materials for silk screen printing on clay. The class will begin by producing sheets of paper clay where slips and underglazes will be printed directly onto flat greenware slabs through masked and stenciled screens. The second part of the class will focus on creating decals that can be transferred on to three dimensional glazed ceramic surfaces. As part of this process participants will learn to prepare black and white and gray scale images for single color photo screenprinting. We will then produce hand mixed inks using ceramic oxides and commercial stains to be printed onto the decal paper.

Participants are encouraged to come with images and designs that they wish to apply to larger ongoing projects in their personal studio practice (there will be time for printing sheets of decals to take home and fire/apply to work). It will also be possible for participants to bring a limited number of previously bisqued and glazed pieces to the workshop to fire decals on site. (The number of pieces will depend on the size of the work and the type of firing. This should be discussed and arranged with the instructor prior to your arrival).
