Laurène Ashley
Hi all, I've been experimenting with matte raku glazes, and all is going well except the fact that I can't get them cleaned after reduction. I'm using a scouring pad and Bon Ami and all the elbow grease I possibly have, and the black marks won't go away. I used newspaper today because my leaves and sawdust were too damp.... I'm wondering if maybe this was a bad idea?? Any tips? I used a few @Marcia Selsor recipes, so if you're around Marcia and could chime in, I would greatly appreciate it!!! Many thanks, Laurène
William K Turner
Laurene, Just joined this forum and saw your post. I have been doing Copper Matte Raku for 30 years. I find that newspaper works best. I line the can with paper and put a few sheets on the bottom. Pull the piece and set it in the can without touching the paper. Let the flames engulf the piece and put the lid on, letting the piece cool for one hour before opening the can. Then just use a brush to clean up the piece. The trick is to not go into the can too hot. I fire to 1730F and pull at 1570F. Raku Art Inc.
