I signed up through my bank and a few months down the road I realize that there were all kinds of hidden fees! I dropped them quick and learned a good lesson. Since then all I have been accepting is cash, check or paypal. 99% of my customers are fine with these options but there are those few that want to use a credit card. Recently I have heard about these no fee credit card processing companies just a flat percentage rate. I often meet customers out away from my home office and would like to be able to use my I-phone to process the card. So here are my questions. Has anyone here used these type of processing companies? This site rates the service as a "B." I know that many artists adore the Square because it's cheap and convenient, but I maintain my skeptical attitude. I think it's a good entry level solution, if your processing needs are relatively small. I can't get past its "venture-capital-startup" status, I just don't feel comfortable with that. The processing wouldnt be for pottery though, it would be for my full time job. I did start to read the other day about member benefits but got a call. I need to just sit down and research it, contact them about getting that bumped up which sounds like if I need it bumped up its not a problem, just more paperwork and credit info. I do believe I read where purchases over 1,000 will be held for 7 days which wouldnt kill me.. I just have to sit down and research more.. dang I hate that. Earthwood Posted November 21, 2011 Report Share Posted November 21, 2011 Buckeye, I was going to suggest intuit GoPayment but then I read that most of your charges are above $1000. I just barely got started with GoPayment, and am using it more or less because my application with Square was denied for whatever reason... But it does have a reputable company backing it up which is why I didn't hesitate going with it. GoPayment is supposedly "free" as long as you charge under $1000 per month. Then they incur all sorts of fees. My volume is small so far because I am just getting started but even now I have noticed these weird little fees at either the start or end of a statement period that I don't recall reading about... I plan to look into it when it becomes a problem. Right now it's not because of the volume. In any case, it is just worth it to me to be able to use my iPhone to swipe cards when people absolutely can't pay by check or cash. That way I don't lose the sale.
