Mosaic Made From Stoneware Rejects...

Short answer is yes.

I have successfully added glazed shards to Cone 10 work with these constraints (no experience at cone 6):

1. fire so that gravity is working with you NOT against you.

2. put new glaze between the shard and the base it's being attached to.  Use a glaze that is not fussy and preferably does not run.  I use shino for this at cone 10.

3. I use Elmer's Glue to hold the shards in place while making and handling the work before putting in the kiln.  Without the glue things are unstable and shift around too much.

4.  I combine items 2 & 3, i.e. mix a thick paste of glue with a thick dollop of glaze.

5.  Keep it simple.

6.  If you are using a glaze on top of everything, remember that the covering glaze needs to "play well with others" specifically the glaze already on the shards and the glaze mixed with the glue.
