  1. How could I achieve such fine detail like the picture. I tried using a stain with jade glaze on top and the drawing ran a bit. It was a cool affect but I'm also interested in fine detail.
  2. I have seen some really cool decoration using slip so that it looks like it's run on the clay. I think that what has been used is kind of a suction tool to run the slip on the pot. I was wondering how dry the pot should be when doing this? Can you put Porcelain slip on other types of clay? Another question somewhat related is, can you mix different types of porcelain say glacia and coleman?
  3. Great thanks, you are my savior in the last couple of days :-)
  4. Hmm, that's a good point. I made it with a seam on one side, maybe that is the cause. Maybe next time I'll make two seems halfway between.
  5. I fired a large hand built bowl and when it came out it was warped in the sense that I put it in circular and it came out somewhat elliptical. Is there a way to avoid this? Should I have let it dry longer before firing it?
  6. I'm not sure if this is the right forum but i had a question about health. Even when I wash my hands I find when they dry some clay left over. If i accidentally eat a little bit of clay here and there are there any long term health affects?
  7. Any creative ideas for what to make with several halves of plates that are leather hard? :-)
  8. I woke up this morning and all three of my plates had giant cracks down the center :-( well lesson learned. So if I has put oil do you think they would not have stuck? Now how do to refurbish the dry clay? If i put it in the bag with some moisture, can I wedge it back to normal use?
  9. Great thanks! I don't mind waiting :-) Unfortunately I did not coat with anything. I figured constartch would cause a mess. I've seen some people use cooking spray. Would saran wrap work as well? Is there a chance the clay simply won't come off even when it's really dry?
  10. I am experimenting to try to make some plates. I molded clay to another plate and let it air dry. It's porcelain and didn't get too wet. How long do you think it will take to come off the plate if I do not cover it? Thanks!
  11. I've watched people use ribs when throwing and it seems like a good guide. My problem is that when I try to use them I always end up shaving clay off so I usually use a sponge instead. What am I doing wrong?
  12. Has anyone tried incorporating glass or metal into their pieces? For example, if I would to put glass beads inside a bowl would it make something like this: http://www.lakesidepottery.com/Media/JPG_Images/Glass-firing-fusing-clay-pottery/bowl-light-blue-glass.jpg I would be firing to cone 10.
