Can I remove the paint from my ceramic pitcher?

Hi! I have a pitcher that I Thrifted. When I got home, I was further inspecting the piece and realized it has been painted over. The bottom has a stamp stating “made in Czech Slovakia“ and appears to have crazing. Is there anyway I can get the paint off without damaging the original glaze/crazing? The paint doesn’t look terrible, but I would like to restore it back to its original state if possible. Thanks in advance!

Hi Cassie, Welcome to the Forum!

You may have luck with paint remover, which should soften the paint without attacking the glaze.
"Should" - on account of unknowns.
Test!

The newer paint remover/stripper formulations work slower than those from decades ago*.
...apply the remover, wait, wait, apply more - keep applying until the paint film loosens, lifting away from the surface and wrinkling.
It can take quite a while for the remover to soften the paint.

*the fumes are less toxic, but still toxic!
Work outdoors, upwind; even then, an organic vapor respirator is recommended.
