Lbauer12
I wanted to try a dark clay so I got 4D3BM Dark Speckled Stoneware from Sheffield. It seems like most people go to cone 6, but this can only go to cone 5. Can someone give me an idea of some of the better glazes for cone 5 and a dark brown clay. I have mostly PC plus a few celedons. I plan on leaving a lot of the pieces unglazed for 1/2 or so on the outside to show off the clay. Thanks. PS I'm a bit confused by this: http://www.potters.org/subject90762.htm I also tested 4D3BM. I still occasionally use it and find the M^6G glazes fit pretty well. ... I wonder if this was at ^5 or ^6? I notice that the 4D3MB's shrinkage and absorption is given at ^6. To me this feels odd for a ^5 body. https://www.sheffield-pottery.com/4D3BM-Dark-Speckled-Stoneware-Moist-Clay-Delivered-p/mc4d3bmfs.htm ... and this: https://glazy.org/recipes/352480 Cone 6 med fire, no hold. Sheffield T6, 4D3BM, 20266 porcelain, Liz's White. 2 dips. S.G = 1.47. ... anything of interest here: Edited June 11 by PeterH Min

The Potters Choice line does just fine at ^5.

Kelly in AK
Looks pretty good at cone 6, on paper. Perhaps the manganese causes some blisters or other unsightly defects that are mitigated by firing at cone 5. I suggest you test your regular glazes in your regular firing on a small scale, then decide if you need to make changes. The first couple pounds you use should be test tiles. Sounds like fun!
