Peperoo
I have perforated kiln shelves. I've read that you should apply kiln wash to only one side of the shelves. But what about the holes? Should I brush through the holes or not?
Pres
I would not brush through the holes. Flaking kiln wash could fall down on ware below the shelf. best, Pres
Callie Beller Diesel
If you don’t work with glazes that run or you know your materials really well, you can leave your shelves bare and use cookies when needed. Especially if your kiln shelves are perforated, you’d want the extra physical barrier when you do glaze tests anyways.

I'm new to glazing so I'm not really sure what's gonna happen and I'm a little anxious! I have also made cookies I hope it works well! Thanks for your reply. Callie Beller Diesel
If this is your own personal kiln, I’d leave the wash off. You can flip the shelves so they don’t warp, and if you’re prepared with cookies, that’ll give you some insurance against glazes running.
