Raku Firings

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I'm a new ICAN member but have been doing ceramics for a while now. I've always gravitated towards raku firings and have been spending the last few years researching and developing my own technique. I've started posting some of my work online and am trying to search out other raku firing specialists. I was wondering if anyone could point me in a certain direction to other artists or studios out there to connect with to further my research.

Thanks in advance; glad to be a part of the community.

Search Raku here, many interesting techniques over the years. Marcia Selsor has a great deal of wisdom and still comments here. I suggest you read through some old threads, pretty impressive base of experience, knowledge, techniques, experimentation …..

there is a book from the UK on raku that shows many different ways to make a raku kiln.   it showcases some really beautiful pieces that are very different from the usual raku work i see at craft fairs.    live too far from the big galleries to know what there is to see but the smithsonian show has gorgeous work each year.   search out the work that interests you and contact the maker.

potters are usually very helpful and generous, if they do not want to help, let them make that decision.    nobody gets an answer to a question that is not asked.
