andros 30
Just wondering if a terra sigillata made complitely with ball clay (or made partly with ball clay and partly with white earthenware clay) could be suitable for a cone 06-07 firing. I'm attracted by the fineness of the particles of ball clay, in order to obtain more terra sigillata in proportion to the clay used, but I'm afraid it requires firing at higher temperatures .... Does anyone have any idea?
Min 3,529
Terra sig is traditionally made with ball clay, some recipes here if you need them (Pete Pinnell's recipe is a good one). Cone 07 - 06 isn't too hot for terra sig, they work okay at these temperatures but can be fired much cooler also. Edited February 17 by Min
andros 30
Thanks Min! I've seen those recipes before and they were actually the ones that gave me the idea of using Ball Clay. I just wasn't sure about the firing range ...

Marcia Selsor 1,915
I use ball clay terra sig. I use a process I learned in Italy from Paola Parenetti. https://ceramicartsnetwork.org/daily/firing-techniques/raku-firing/super-quick-terra-sig-and-horsehair-and-feather-raku/
