CactusPots
https://youtu.be/ot_OZBh54-k One modification I can see is some kind of adjustable feeler to set the thickness of the bottom. Since I frequently trim feet in, on big pots, it's a large sacrifice of clay and needs to be accurate.
Pres
Interesting tool, but then again most experienced potters can tell by feel how deep things are. best, Pres
Hulk
I'm hearing Tom making the point that his tool sets the thickness - difference between the leg lengths; is that the main point? From there, looks like he's assembled tools for each target thickness. Cool idea! Not likely I'll go there, however, as I'm not creating a vertical wall in throwing the base for a flat bottomed vertical wall piece (cylinder); I'm turning the clay up after establishing the base. See "Isaac Button; Country Potter Pt. 2" at about the minute mark. Getting the base thrown and worked ("compressed"), then turning the clay up has been key for me ...have seen several variations on the technique/procedure/sequence. Tom has a lot of views on that one vid!

Me too! Robin Hopper does this also, he has a sponge in his Left hand while turning up the donut.
