CFlowers
Hello all! I am looking for a clear glaze that isn't super glossy or super cloudy for the exterior of some sgraffito work I've done. (Specifically, amacao black velvet on a white clay body but I use other colors and clays also). It seems like to be truly clear, it would have to be quite glossy. I do have the glossy Mayco SW-004 Zinc-Free Clear. I found this thread and this person was looking for the same thing, but I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share photo examples of using the Mayco SW002 or another Cone 6 appropriate product. https://community.ceramicartsdaily.org/topic/15438-clear-mattesatin-glaze-recommendations/?tab=comments#comment-117364 I know that trial and error and seeing it for myself is the best but I'd love to try some out on my next batch And no, I am in no position right now to make my own glazes. Life is crazy enough at the moment. https://imgur.com/37Thzey

Life is crazy enough at the moment. https://imgur.com/37Thzey Here ya go complete with pictures https://glazy.org/recipes/19734 have used it in a studio environment for quite some time . Works on my frost porcelain, studio Bmix, and various white stones. It was designed To be very matte, and is a true matte so no special cooling needed. To change this simply inch the silica up slowly till you get the matte you like. It will go all the way to gloss, but please don’t use this as a gloss there are better ways to make a gloss. The design for this is cone 6, been tested acceptable from 5-7, zinc free and needed to melt over heavy applications of underglaze and pretty much doesn’t move. We dip and spray to within an 1/8”. We mix it pretty thin at 135 SPG I think with three second dips. For all clear glazes thin even application is always best. Not so thin that it doesn’t cover though. Thin even coats of ANY clear will provide the best opportunity to be as clear as practical.. Thick applications of most clears start looking cloudy. The pot in the Glazy picture is medium even spray to cover heavy underglazes (3 coats) test tile on Glazy is 2 dip @ 3 sec I think. This recipe has not been tested with substitutions, that is Gillespie instead of Gerstley and........ glazes sometime don’t travel well. It’s been super solid for us for a long time, hopefully it works for you.

I will hold on to this when I get to the point in life when I can make my own glazes. I'm very excited about this.
