chipcoates
I’m looking for a good stable cone 6 crawl for use with Mason stains. The crawls with Mag Carb and Nepheline Syenite tend to burn out some colours at cone 6. Thinking that some Frit 3124 substituted for some of the Feldspar might do it but any pointers would be appreciated.
Min
Some stains are quite particular about glaze composition. Mason stain reference guide here, look up your stain numbers then at the codes for the reference notes at the top of that page. For example chrome tin pinks, purples etc need a high calcium base glaze and no zinc or the colour won't develop. Also the high magnesium of the crawl glaze will shift cobalt from blues to more of a purple.
neilestrick
Any crawl I've seen is either high in magnesium or high in neph sye. Not all stains will work in all glazes, they all have limitations. Take a look at the charts, and start testing.
