HPR 0
I have been making mugs with bmix. After trimming and attaching handles I then pipe bmix slip along the rim until it slumps down the mug creating a large drip effect. The slip continually cracks around where the handle and the slip meet. Is this a hydration issue? Too much moisture? Too little? Help!
liambesaw 2,820
Too much water in the slip, too little water in the handle, could be either, however I'd lean toward too much moisture in the slip, try adding more dry bmix and then deflocculating with sodium silicate to adjust consistency. This will create a liquid with less water.
Callie Beller Diesel 2,621
When I do my thick slip mugs, I apply the slip, allow it to come to leather hard and then apply the handle. I don’t have too many cracking issues that way. I don’t deflocculate my thick slip, but I agree that could be a solution. Rae Reich
