Best white glaze for a platter

Recommended Posts

OK Help please I have finally gotten a large platter with a few sea shells bisque fired.. I want to do it white or off white but would like a little break to happen over the shells and edges. Standard's Waxy white doesnt work over light chino it cracks. I was thinking maybe coyote eggshell white???? Don't know if it will break at all....and should I do it by itself or with some other white undreneath????? Any ideas will help thanks..... Oh it is just a Raku clay I am covering.

A lot of glazes won't fit well on Raku clay because most Raku bodies are actually formulated to handle high temperatures. That's one of the reasons why they hold up well for Raku- they're really underfired at low fire temps. So most low fire and many mid-range glazes will craze on Raku bodies. It's like putting a low fire glaze on a cone 10 clay. As for finding a white glaze that will work for your project, test, test, test. Every clay body is different.
