Lbegley
Urg, despite knowing better, I was talked into making a purple vase for my brother in law to gift this Xmas. Anyone have a recipe for a cone 5 purple they like? (I would rather mix one up and have what’s left for the students where I work, than buy a commercial glaze). Roberta12
I have used a couple of the purples from John Britt's book. Pikes Peak purple, and Ashley's purple. They are both matte. Is that what you are looking for?
neilestrick
A matte periwinkle-purple can be made by adding cobalt carbonate to a magnesium matte. Sometimes they can be a little blueish, though. If you're looking for a gloss purple, using a stain in a glossy base would be the best way to go. Purple stains usually have some specific requirements for the base glaze, though, so you'll have to check on that when you choose your stain. All of this will take testing, though. If I were you, since it's so close to Xmas, I would just go buy a pint of purple glaze, especially since you'll be stuck with a bucket of purple glaze if you mix your own. Tamas
I am not native English so "purple" may mean different to me, but here is a manganese-cobalt purple which is glossy and not a very complex recipe.
