TypicalGirl
OK - last one. Introducing ash into the kiln. I probably shouldn't do this in my new Olympic kiln right? http://www.kazegamas.com/flashing%20slips.htm I'm assuming I'm going to do something to the brick/shelves/posts that won't be good for future non-ash-introduced cone 10 firings? Thanks Gurus!
Mark C.
put it on pots or on or in glazes-we have had great results with that just be carefull spreading it loose on things as its not a wood fired hard brick kiln It can flux out on stuff worse case you have to grind it off shelves Mark
TypicalGirl
Yeah, I recently got "Ash Glazes" by Bob Tichane and am hoping to spend some quality time with it next time I'm rained in. Thanks Mark!
neilestrick
Only on the pots, not into the kiln loose! You can dust it onto your pots before putting them in, or add it into your glazes. DO NOT blow it into the kiln!
TJR
Take a sieve that is course[40 mesh] and dust your ash onto the shoulders of the pots. Or use a section of scrap window screen. Not too thick, and wear a mask.[A dust mask, not a Hallowe'en mask] Don't get any ash on the shelves. If you are worried about the glazes running, make a thin clay tile, bisque it and set them on these. They can be reused. You can also set your work on scrap soft brick. TJR.
