AndreaB 56
Hi, I want to make a slab of pop for wedging. How thick should the plaster be so that it doesn't crack? I want to make a wooden frame and fill with plaster. Thanks in advance. Have a good week Andrea
Chris Throws Pots 72
I use 2x4s to make the frames forms for plaster wedging slabs and fill 1/2 to 3/4 full. So somewhere in the 2"-3" range. I'd recommend using pottery plaster, not PoP. It's going to be stronger and hold up better.

Mark C. 4,942
1# Pottery plaster is much better than POP-that you will find is to soft.I would cast it 4-5 inches thick. You can also use casting plaster sold at a building supply-just make it 5 inch thick.Mine is 45 years old out old casting plaster and 5 inch thick. I should mention I always ove kill just about everything

neilestrick 4,690
I've got a 3 inch slab that has lasted for years in a studio that's used by many people.
Pres 2,419
Filled an Amaco wedging table years in the past, 3 inch side board with double wire cutters mounted to side and center posts. Lasted for 20 years when we refilled it. posts were the only area where plaster cracked as they got knocked from student abuse. I would say 3" is nominal with a good base. best, Pres
