I have a fired ceramic statue that I made for my Mom. I painted it with acrylics and then sprayed a protective coating on it. It is about 30 years old. I got the statue back when she passed away recently. Apparently, when her hall was being painted a couple drops of paint ended up on the statue. How can I safely remove them? I can only guess  that the paint was water based.

In addition to Mark's suggestion. Warm water with a little Ivory liquid would work.  Just make sure that you do not let the sculpture stay wet too long as you may cause the protective glaze to lift.  I work with many different finishes in my ceramics repair business.  The best rule I can share is start with the least intrusive method, then if needed go to the next level.
