Marcia Selsor
I have started packing. A container will arrive here on Dec 12 and meet us in Montana on the 26th. We're very excited to be moving back to Montana. I lived there for 31 years before my husband took a job in Texas. The garage will be my studio. I need to get a gas line and heater put in. It is already insulated. The kiln shed sits right below the electric source on the pole. the folks at the electric company said if the run was under 150 ft and no digging , the service installation would be free.happy dance! The other photos are town wildlife and Broadway with a biker. We love the town. And have many friends here. They' ll be there to help us unload our container when it arrives.Working on the house here after working on the house there. Friends are helping a lot.we spent halloween there after closing on the house. Marcia

terrim8
Just googled Red Lodge. You're right next to Yellowstone! No need to ask how close it is to xc skiing. Looks so nice & your place looks great too- a little more exotic than the usual squirrels & small birds at the birdfeeder.
Marcia Selsor
terrim8, We had a great time while we were there to close and celebrated halloween with the locals. We'll be there for the Solstice bonfire too. It is 70 miles to the NE entrance to yellowstone over the Beartooth Scenic Byway. http://beartoothhighway.com My favorite drive in the world. Benzine
Normally I wouldn't wish the moving process on anyone, but I'm sure it's a great conciliation that you are going back to a place you both previously lived, and loved. I'm glad you found a home that will allow you to easily continue your passion. I look forward to seeing the work that comes out of the new studio. Mark C.
You seem happy about getting out of Texas-they say its whole other country-so do you get your passport stamped at the border??
Marcia Selsor
Don't need a passport but I do go through border patrol checkpoints if I drive to the beach at Boca Chica which follows the Rio Grande border and anytime I head North to San Antonio, Corpus Christi or Austin and Houston I go through Border check points. If I head up the river along the border, there are regular check points. On I 10 in Arizona and NM there are check points. I am down on I 2.Back in 2002 or so, I taught a workshop in Kelowna , Canada, when still living in Montana. The border patrol wanted to see my Passport then. But that was right after 9/11. oldlady
marcia, it must be a wrenching experience to leave that beautiful setup in texas. i still remember the photo of all that table space. the good part is that now you have a better idea of exactly how you want to set up the new one!! Marcia Selsor
Its days like this that I think being a jeweler might have been easier. Packed up raku kiln bricks and will make a new fiber chamber. With the raku kiln out of the way, , moving my big oval can now be planned. My friend, Stephani Stevenson moved her studio from Ca. to Az. and one thing she did was plastic wrap her ware carts. I have 4 with wheels plus tables on wheels. So far it is coming along.Tomorrow I'll take apart the slab roller and large table. Marcia

Marcia Selsor
Deciding what to take to the dump has been a nice liberating experience. I am ditching my sheetrock boards that are dinged up and 10 years old. Ditching plaster hump molds I made because I figured out how to slump slabs with the sandwiched rims and don't need the heavy plaster. Got rid of 2 garbage bags full of plastic containers including margarine containers from my deceased mom.Getting rid of large jars for terra sig because I don't make it using them anymore. Keeping my ball mill because I am moving to a land rich in local clays which I researches 35 or more years ago..namely Gyp Springs and Pryor Mountains and more. throwing out old work I made 20 years ago. It has been shown all over the US. Done with it. Threw out articles I published in British Archeology Reports. Nobody I know reads them. Trip to the landfill mañana. It is going to be 90 F tomorrow. Can't wait to hit the mountain air in Montana.
Marcia Selsor
My friend , Gerry Williams, once told me after his studio fire, that the best thing out of that experience was the loss of his glaze notebooks. In hindsight at this level of my pottery life, I can agree with him. I am feeling rather limitless in this new direction and a cleansing of my studio. It is a good thing. Looking forward to Spring and new beginnings. Marcia
