Yet Another Raku Question

Recommended Posts

Hi again,

Yes as the title says yet another question being posed to all of you.  :)

I've some bisqued pots and I am wondering if I can apply terra sig to them for horse hair firing.  If so, do I need to re-bisque?

Many, many thanks.

Andrea

You could try but probably not going to work. Apply when clay is wet or leather hard next time. You can still do horse hair on the pot. it just might not be as vibrant.

Also remember, the bisque temp for terra sig is relatively low, otherwise it will lose its shine.

With the ware(s) you already bisqued, you could try applying an underglaze, then burnish that and rebisque.  Not something I've tried, but just a thought.

Best of luck.

Hmmm, well we haven't had much luck with applying terra sig to bisque ware. You might apply some stains to the bisque ware (make sure its thoroughly dry) and then horsehair raku,  But terra sig applied to bone dry greenware before bisquing is the way to go.   gl  rakuku

Here's the results of the raku workshop. Out of five firings I had three items I would call successful.

Naked, I loved the process and want to do it again and again.

Horse hair. Also loved this process.

The matt copper fuming was a big disappointment, the whole area was not big enough to accommodate all the pots being unloaded and with 15 people trying to process their work, chaos reigned.  Apparently I can refire.  Should I try it?
