Low-Fire (^2) Satin/semi-Gloss Clear Recipe?

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a satin clear glaze that can be fired to cone 2.

I am going to do some testing, but there is such a plethora of recipes out there for low-fire and mid-range but not much that I can see for cone 2. I am assuming I will have to just test and tweak but not sure which ones to try first. Suggestions? Recipes?

I have a mid-fire clear recipe that my community studio uses at cone 6:

Gerstley borate - 50

Silica - 32

EPK - 18

I have also used a commonly found low-fire clear recipe at cone 06:

Gerstley borate - 50

Silica - 32

EPK - 18

Do you see anything unusual about those two recipes when you compare them side by side?

You are asking for something about halfway between low-fire and mid-fire. Normally, you would not just mix equal parts of a low-fire and mid-fire recipe and expect it to work at cone 2, but these two recipes could be averaged, and you would have:

Gerstley borate - 50

Silica - 32

EPK - 18

(but I repeat myself... :P )
