tpomeroy 0
Hi, we are novices who have just bought a secondhand Firecraft top-loading kiln. When it arrived, the asbestos sealing ring had come unstuck from the lid. The kiln goes up to 1300 C. What kind of glue can we use to stick it back on? T
Marcia Selsor 1,905
Are you sure it is asbestos? or is it ceramic fiber? If it is ceramic fiber, you could use liquid sodium silicate. I would NOT want an asbestos ring on a lid. Marcia
tpomeroy 0
Thanks Marcia! Ah, maybe it is ceramic fiber, that would make more sense. I also heard about using refractory glue or refractory mortar. What do you think about these compared to liquid sodium silicate? T
Marcia Selsor 1,905
I don't know how the mortar would work. The glue could do the job. Talk to a refractory supplier if you have one nearby. Marcia
