Lucille Oka
I have 8 pieces of a fish, raku fired and wish to put them together, grouting between pieces, for an outdoor hanging. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I would use as the 'back board'? Thank you. k During construction of the pieces did you plan to hang them outside on a 'backboard' or is this what you want to do now? I ask because they needed to be prepared for hanging? Are they flat or curved pieces? Did you add 'keys' or at least score the backs of the pieces so they will cling to the mastic? Have you been to 'home building supply stores' to check on suitable weather proof surfaces? Redwood, or teak($$) may work. How about placing the pieces in the garden, on the ground away from the walking path on gravel or in blue glass pebbles like a 'secret find'? Marcia Selsor
Backer board or duracrete is good tiles. You really need to waterproof the pieces if they are porous rake and if you are in a places where it freezes. Maybe you can seal the clay and grout before the moisture gets in. For ourdoor ceramics you should use freeze proof clay recipes. Marcia
