  1. I'm Czech and I'm translating a school syllabus for pottery classes. I need some help. Is there a word in English for: This shape which you get after centering and opening clay ( in Czech: "the basic shape"): additives which make a clay body lighter because they burn out (e.g. peat, starch, sawdust,..) in Czech they are called "lighteners" paints which are used on glaze fired pots and then fired again at 1,200 - 1,300 °C, very resistant on glaze paints. (in Czech something like "melt-in paints") Finally, is there an expression like "outer hand" and "inner hand" (hand positions for throwing) THANKS!
  2. Hello all, I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations about where to source firebricks around Chicago (I'm willing to travel). I've been keeping an eye on Craigslist but it seems the offerings right now begin and end with landscaping bricks. Peeking around construction sites is yielding pretty much the same results. If I'm not firing Stoneware would those be fine? Are there types of businesses, services people have had luck contacting to source brick? Any help / insight / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  3. I'm beginning a new collaborative project with an Illustrator and to be able to capture the detail of her drawing's I want to use transfers within the work but I'm really struggling to find somewhere that can produce Gold transfers for a good price and without a large minimum order, can anyone help? Thank you
  4. I am inspired to post this as I have walked around a saber saw on a stand in my studio for low these past two years. I did not ask for this saw, nor do I know how to use it. It is good for hanging my parka on.The owner got it out of his house. He left with a good feeling, having rid himself of an uneeded piece of equipment. I have been gifted clay, glaze, a gas kiln, more glaze,un-named white powdery bags of something. These are gifts that keep on giving. What have you been given that you didn't want, didn't ask for, and don't need? Merry Christmas. TJR.
