Here are my questions: I am going to use bone china for this project: Do you think is it a good clay for my project If so, what is the programme to fire my flowers at for them to become a bisque?, for them to be hard ceramic but still porous for the fragrance to travel through? 5. I bought a beautiful mug and a few weeks later, it would develop a sandy feeling all over the mug about 10 -15 minutes after pouring boiling water into it for tea. About a week later I noticed the sandy feeling was sticky, as if the honey in the tea was leaking through. What causes this odd thing?
  6. Cheers! I thank you very much if anyone can consult. I don't know why in the black or red ceramic paste (which I have high temperature), my faldespatico base enamels do not cover this clay. The enamels come out with bubbles.., although in white clay they work well for me. I understand that black clays contain ox iron and manganese..
  7. Hi all, I'm planning on building a hobby kiln for my partner, and am in the process of choosing refractory materials and kanthal wire for the heating element. Was hoping I could get some advice from anybody who knows about these things. I want the kiln to be light weight and very efficient. I'd like to use ceramic fibre board as an inner layer of insulation (rated to 1400 C / 2550 F), and calcium silicate board as a secondary layer (rated to 1000 C / 1830 F). The ceramic fibre board is very expensive compared to the calcium silicate board, but i can't only use the calcium silicate bo
  8. Hello! I wasn't particularly sure which forum I should post this request, but I was wondering if anyone was able to help me out. I recently broke a decoration owned by my mother, one that she very much liked, and I was hoping someone would be able to help me identify it in order for me to buy another. She is not sure where she got it, but we are based in the UK. But we have a feeling it may be Scandinavian. I have searched around the web, and have failed in finding it available to buy. It may be only available in a store somewhere. Here is a link to a photo of it - https://d
  9. Hello everyone I created recently this almost 2 meters large ceramic sculpture. Since the form consists from many smaller pieces I was able to create this large size format but I would like to keep working on big size figures and I don't want every one of them to be chopped. If possible I would like to avoid making molds, simply sculpt and put it directly to kiln. So I was wandering if you can give me some advises on what type of armature I can use that can go into kiln and how to create this armature in order to follow shrinking while drying or baking? Thank you so much in advan

  13. Hello, I'm no artist or sculptor but a classics graduate with a passion for Classical art and sculpture. I am in need of advice from professionals regarding a recently acquired a bust from a car boot sale. I purchased this for £16 and was hoping it might be possible to refurbish it for a Grey stone/marble look like the traditional classical sculptures and busts. I have taken this to an antique dealer who did not particularly care for it and appeared to want me gone knowing he would make no money from me. He believes the material is plaster as it was cold and sounds holl

  15. Hello, newbie here! Not too long ago, I decided I wanted to make a sculpture for my public library as a part of a Christmas decoration. I have my wooden dowel skeleton fixed up, putting it at 1'-2', and I'm using air dry clay. Problem is that it has been a while since I last used clay, and I don't know where to start WRT applying the clay on the skeleton. I tried putting slabs on it but it was too chunky on the legs and when I got up to the torso, it kept tilting over until it just broke off completely. Now, I added more dowels to the legs and spine, and will be adding more for the torso

I don't make many teapots, but I had the idea for this teapot with a hollow wave cut out of the body. It was an experiment, and it's not perfect but I still really like this piece. Wheel thrown and hand built with applied engobe and underglaze, sgraffito and hand painted waves. Fired to ^6 electric.
