Hi all, Hi I have been making samples using Scarva Nano Mason Stains (https://www.scarva.com/en/gb/Nano-Leadfree-Glaze-and-Body-Stains/c-51.aspx) to colour the clay body of the Scarva PF700 Stoneware(https://www.scarva.com/en/gb/Scarva-Earthstone-Professional-PF700-Porcelain-White-Stoneware/m-43.aspx). I am firing to cone 8 (1250c) with a soak of 30mins but as you can see in the attached photo the warm colours are not coming through at all. The cool colours are reasonably close to the colours advertised but still off. Can you please advise whether I am doing anything wrong to
Hello all. I recently started experimenting with mixing Mason stains in with my b-mix clay body. The green I tried came out beautifully, but the crimson when fired to cone 6 was left with no color. Any suggestions? I thought maybe I hadn't done a high enough percentage, but after doubling the amount it still was the same amount of colorless. I just did a small pebble of clay and left one side unglazed and covered the other with Mayco's zinc free clear and that didn't keep the color in either.
I’m lost. I used Bermuda green mason stain in my porcelain clay body and it turned dark grey. I fired to cone 6. When I mixed it I used about half pound of stain to 7 pounds of a thick slip once wedged I get about 6 pounds of clay. I mix it with a mixer and then wedge it very well. I’ve never had issues before with any other colors. I used amaco clear glaze on top. I don’t believe it’s the glaze(maybe I’m wrong) because even sections I didn’t glaze are dark grey. Someone please shed some light on this and help me achieve the right color before I lose my mind
I just mixed a bunch of colored slips for the studio using trimmings from Laguna #65. I left the studio for 2 weeks and I come back and all the slips I mixed have turned black and smell something fierce. How can I fix or prevent this for next time cause I definitely just burned $20 of mason stain. Would a vinegar ratio have killed bacteria growth? Should I not have used trimmings and just mixed a clay base?
