Adding broken ceramics to fresh clay?

Hello. Found this post… have been collecting old pottery pieces from Kent in UK and would like to add them to a terracotta floor tile. I was thinking of adding them sinking them in the clay before it dries and is fired. Has anyone tried? thank you
