  1. Hi Liam,

In previous posts you mentioned getting waterslide decals on Amazon.  Can you tell me which ones work?  I've tried a couple of waterslide decals from ebay and the image gets distorted during firing, kind of melts a little.

I thought it was something I was doing wrong and I tried several different firing temperatures, but always get the same bad result.  Now I think it's something with the decal paper that causes the distortion when reaching higher temps.  I am aware of the whole unfortunate litigation situation and I am trying to avoid supporting Fired On.  If you can point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated!

    Sonia

Hi @Sonia, I haven't used them yet so I can't help you.  I suggest looking through the reviews to see if any mention using them on pottery.

  2. Our favorite Thrift shop is Islands thrift in Oak Harbor on Widby Island if you get up that way. Its more visted these days but still a great spot. It works so well as the airbase is nearby and has a constant turnover of folks who dump most of thier stuff moving to another base.

We usually hit about 6 of them on a Saturday or Sunday, we have a few in the neighborhood and then some church based ones that always have awesome weird old stuff that old ladies leave to the church in their will.

This coronavirus thing has us jonesing for a thrift store fix, none of them are open

  4. Hi All y’All…Just wanted to let you know that I’m going in for hand surgery in a couple of hours to fix a trigger finger and maybe another potential problem call Dupuytrens Contracture…I’m expecting all to go well, but may not be at the keyboard for a couple of days and the clay for about a month...we’ll see…

  5. Well,  hot diggity dog--I have received an invite from the Ceramics Art Network's magazine, Ceramics Monthly, to write a short article w/pics for the Quick Tip series. It will be about my simple "works for me" inventory/storage system.

  11. I was just reminded how fragile bone-dry greenware is when I was transporting a stack of berry bowls from my studio to my garage to load into the kiln...broke 2. Will open the kiln this afternoon to unload 40 pieces and get ready for glazing and horsehair Raku...

Save so much money!  Under 300 dollars for parts (closer to 250), permit and inspection under 100, versus 1250 for the same thing from an electrician.  Can't believe it!  I could even go cheaper if I don't use a GFCI breaker and skip the permit but I want to do it right

I know, it's bittersweet.  No more daylight but plenty of studio time.  It's gonna be dark when I get to work and dark when I come home.

I'm gonna guess the rutile and manganese offgassed when you refired with a gloss over it. Maybe it didn't reach temperature the first time you fired it.
