The popcorn is a fantastic idea. I hate packing peanuts, because they get everywhere and are tough to dispose of. The popcorn, could just be thrown on the lawn, and the birds would take care of it. I wouldn't eat it, because "Ew Air Pop.."

That was the original idea. . throw it on the lawn. However, it seems lots of folks see a box of popcorn and party! From what I hear.

  9. Back from the Alaska trip last night-great time, now it is time to get to work.

  10. I bought two CI's in the day-80's, for the HS on their budget. One MP, and one HP. When I retired, they were still running strong. I demonstrated often on the HP as it had the torque that I liked, and could handle larger amounts of clay. The original splash pans were flimsy, but lasted about 8 years with kid use. Later splash was without a bottom with springs to hold it in place. Not bad, but not great either. They were very well made, but after they were taken over, I saw a few in use. They were never the same as the originals.
  11. Load of Chalice and paten glaze out last night, popping popcorn and mailing out 5. kiln also had 20+ mugs and some medium sized bowls. I am trying the spray on route with the hazelnut, it was not perfect, but much better than most loads with it so far.

  12. Main cone pack blew on Monday glaze fire. Refired yesterday off at 130am. cooling now. Hate it when they blow, first one in years.

Yeah, if not properly dried and firing too quick. My fault, but then it happens.

  13. I believe that your experience with the "open studio" was the result of a poor or inexperienced teacher. It could also be that it was meant to be an open studio, with the coordinator/teacher there as a resource person for anyone that needed/wanted help. When I ran my adult classes, it was an open studio style, but I made regular demonstrations at the beginning at each session. I also started the first day off with demonstrations of each type of equipment in the studio and what they would do in relation to making pottery. This would include slab roller for slabs, extruder for extrusions, and the potters wheel. First day not a whole lot got done by the folks there, but by the end of the day everyone had an idea where they wanted to go. I also had set up my demos so that I could quickly assemble a piece showing and discussing the process of assembly, and the characteristics of the type of form. Most everyone worked on the wheel, and I would be going back and forth between the wheel throwers and handbuilders every day. This made the day very busy, and exhausting, but the folks really had a chance to progress in their skills. In the years that I taught the class it filled up early in the Fall, and the last year I taught a double session, morning and afternoon as I knew I was leaving. Most of the time people that took the first class 10 years earlier were still in it when I left.
  14. Back from NC, great conference considering everything. Looks like next year they are going to have 3 Japanese potters from Japan, and a tea master for an authentic tea ceremony. I can't remember the names, but it sounded like they should be pretty reputable. John you may know them if I could remember names. Very tired after the long drive.
