Camping, kayaking, family, travel, Art in general. I have a small studio in my garage. Two electric kilns, two wheels, wedging table etc. I am primarily interested in cone 6 Ox. but like to see what is going on at all ranges. Read about ceramics voraciously and love the feel of the clay and throwing. Have to admit that my greatest joy is in the making, not the glazing. That said I do mix my own glazes, some of my own formulas, some borrowed. Retired from teaching art, in 2009 after 36 years, taught ceramics 34 of those years.

  1. Finished a bisque of patens, firing was weird. So checked out the elements with the ohm meter. Top element is dead. Have backups, will put in before glaze load.

There's always something isn't there. Good thing you caught it before the glaze load.

I could have fired it without, but it will reach temp quicker this way. Gotta love L&L for the element holders.

I bought a new Cone Art kiln a couple years ago, looked great until I changed the elements the first time. Even with being super careful I still managed to chip out some bits along the upper edges of the channels. Maybe one day L&L will be available in Canada.
