  1. Thank you, everyone!
  2. Thanks, guys. Much appeciated. Will any frit do? I've heard that 3124 is recommended but they're out of stock at the moment so will 3134 do instead? I'm wanting a pale, watercolour look so will also try mixing the majolica glaze with the stains. Thanks.
  3. Hi all, I want to try majolica and have read that frit should be added to oxides and stains but is that always necessary? What would be the outcome if I just mixed it with water and maybe CMC (which I already have) I'm just trying to avoid buying things that are unnecessary. Thanks in advance.
  4. Thank you to everyone for your replies. I'm wondering about burnishing and terra sig. I'll look for some posts on these things. Maybe that's the way I should go.
  5. Hi all, Happy New Year to everyone! I'm interested in firing stoneware dishes without using a glaze. I only want to use coloured slips. Would this still be food safe? I spoke to a potter at a rather prestigious ceramics event in London and she didn't use any glazes. I asked her if her ware was foodsafe and she told me, yes. I'm guessing that the high-fire temperatures will vitrify the clay sufficiently to make it washable/hygienic/easy-to-clean? One of the reasons I want to do this is so I can stack the shallow dishes on top of each other during the firing - but I also like matt fin
  6. Thank you for your reply, Sputty. Much appreciated. The litter I was referring to is this one: https://www.catsan.co.uk/Products/clumping-litter It's 100% clay. What do you think? I can but try - and if need be, I could mix it with some existing clay to see what'll happen.
  7. Hi all, I have a question that has probably never been asked before: is clay-based cat litter usable as content for casting slip? I ask this because it's cheaper and I can buy it from a local store rather than order my usual clay online and have to pay an exorbitant delivery fee. I like to experiment so was going to make something small to see what would happen but I also thought I'd put the question out there in case anyone had actually tried this. Thanks in advance!
