  3. Wow fantastic work, I would love to learn more about what you are doing! I do loads of tile work and murals as well but would love to do something in that style. I have done a art deco like mermaid in tiles and love the style. Opps having problems attaching a pic...will try later Trina Trying again with the picture..... it worked i think....
  4. Hey great vid, would have loved to see it a bit more slowly so I could get a better look at all the wonderful objects and paintings! Well Done Trina
  5. Hard question to answer but i think you answered it yourself, you are using glazes that have been created by other people, and it suits them. Maybe you need to start mixing and testing your own glazes and get one that is right for you. Yes I KNOW this takes ages but in the learning you will create something for you and by you. Trina

  7. When I make the odd sieve, I get some mesh from the hardware store and then I go to a plumbing supply store and buy as large as I want sewage connector pipes. One side is a bit bigger than the other so when you put the mesh on one side and then fit them together you get a super sieve. Hope that makes sense. Trina
  8. Makes sense. Most of the work is just slip attached though. Some have suggested I make the application and bisque fire it then glaze in place. I don't see this as an answer. Too much detail to manipulate without a fixed surface for one thing and having to make sure everything stays in place in the glaze fire is another. I will check with High water. I also have some grog I can add to a clay that i use regularly Standard 259...Comments from Marica will be appreciated. If you are in Raleigh as noted and can do so, share the word about the Naked/Ferric class with Wally and Sue I mentioned in
  9. I normally have something in mind when I do a project. What do you have in mind maybe I can help. T
  10. Hi there, could also be a clay problem. What are you using? I have a very old potters book and describes a great way to make large slabs. I will bring it back from the studio when I go tomorrow and try to scan in the section. T
  11. Fab tea sets!! You should be really proud of those babies!!! Trina
  12. Hi there, I live in a very warm climate so i dont really suffer from the problems of cold. Clay freezes at the same temps as water, normally I would think that as long as your temps dont go under 0C you should be good. Although working with reall cold clay must be hard on the hands brrrrr.... I know some people use small coal bricket ovens to keepthings warmer, but I dont know how feasable that is for you. I get cheaper rate if i use electric at night so that might be an option. My kiln is outside and have used it in the coldest days here 5C with no problem. Hope that he
  13. Hey great, Glad all is up and running. I have a kiln that i need to get fixed up. ECK. I keep procrastinating about it, the thermocouple got killed when it got moved to my studio. I cringe internally when people start talking about amps and volts... I think I might dig a big pit Trina
  14. I read all the posts again and tried to answer, but I guess after thinking about it, the real question is what is good art? and is what you're trying to express and what you have in your minds eye what you are producing. I think for me that is the biggest battle and the one I fight everyday, when does what I make move the viewer on an emotional level (for me that is art). I want to know that the piece in the kiln IS going to be as FAB as I imagine it to be even before I open the door. And the only way to get there is produce as much as you can and mean IT .... Trina oh ya and if that fails
  15. No, you salt glaze It! I enjoy your posts. TJR. Nope...you take it home because you have some acrylic paints and glitter..... Trina
  16. Ha! I love the spoon idea!!! I too have tried various ways try to remember what was in that pot. I tend to use plastic shot glasses....ummmm... anyway I will get a bag of plastic spoons and change my life. Other than not procrastinating about production work the only other tip I have is...Don't let anyone in the studio on those days, they just wanna talk and I loose total concentration.... Trina
  17. Hi there, I have been having a bit of a downer since Christmas, feeling a bit lardy and bla way too much sugar!! However I found that stopping with the sugar and going out with my dogs in the fresh air helps. I was in the studio this morning looking at a dreaded commission (hehhehe) and decided that having a look in some old sketch books and looking at old photos of things of the past helps. It gives me that 'Oh ya. I wanted to do that and that with that thing next time or a series of that and that' I love making salt and pepper shakers like the ones on my ID photo thing, so I
