This delicious cup was fired for 96 hours in Justin Rothshank's anagama in Goshen, IN. -

This is a twice fired cup that started out as a shino cup from a cone 10 reduction kiln. It just seemed like it was lacking something special that I new it had in it, so I put it in a protected spot in the firebox of a wood fired kiln. The intense atmosphere of the fire box offered this cup a second chance to become the special one from that firing.-

I do not own a wood fired kiln. I have been visiting wood fired kilns to learn about the different styles of kilns while enjoying the community that comes together to make firing possible. These are the pieces from those kilns.

This handmade paintbrush has an ebony handle that I turned on the lathe. (I believe that the lathe is a natural for potters, it's just like a wheel but side ways) I made the ferrule on the wheel and then high fired it with shino. I built the brush head out of white tail deer tail hair, it's a great hair for holding slip and glaze.-

This rib is great for plates. The long curve with just enough sweep to dish the dish and the short curve to detail the rim. Beautiful wood just makes it that much more fun to use. -

I fired this cup in my gas Olympic test kiln. I am just starting to get the hang of of getting carbon build up in this kiln. It really wants to go oxidation. -

Deep rib work and dynamic brush strokes play across the surface of this yunomi softened by shino. -

This yunomi was fired to cone 9 in my small Olympic updraft gas test kiln. I really didn't get the body reduction that I was after but this particular shino looks great in reduction or oxidation. -

This is also from my first firing of my Olympic gas test kiln. I was able to get a pretty good carbon trap atmosphere in this test kiln. I started reduction at about cone 012 and kept it in reduction until about cone 06. -

I just got an Olympic updraft gas kiln that I have fired for the first time. I had been warned that it was difficult to fire to cone 10 but I found with a digital pyrometer it was an easy fire. -
