From time to time I am asked if I ever make any big tools, well here you go.
  3. From the album: High Fire

These are some thick hand built plus pulled handles I am working on for my mugs.

    High Fire

These are some of the glazes that I have been working on. Mostly shino and shino like glazes with a few others tossed in for good measure.

This rib is twice as thick as my regular ribs and is perfect for moving clay quickly. TroyBungartStudios

Spinning round and round this rib will give you control over the curves in your bowls.
  7. Hello Paul, Thanks for the kind words! I don't think that I have any of this material in that size but I will take a look.
  8. From the album: Pottery Tools

I make an assortment of custom ribs. This round padauk rib is perfect for getting that sweet round curve in your bowls with style.

    Handmade Paint Brushes

I use a variety of materials when I make my brushes. While I strive for them to be functional I also want them to be unique and beautiful.

Bamboo and skunk brush with attitude.

Loaded with ash crystals from being in just the right spot in Mark Goertzen's kiln, Dante.
  12. From the album: High Fire

This delicious cup was fired for 96 hours in Justin Rothshank's anagama in Goshen, IN.
  13. From the album: Wood Fired

This is a twice fired cup that started out as a shino cup from a cone 10 reduction kiln. It just seemed like it was lacking something special that I new it had in it, so I put it in a protected spot in the firebox of a wood fired kiln. The intense atmosphere of the fire box offered this cup a second chance to become the special one from that firing.

    Wood Fired

I do not own a wood fired kiln. I have been visiting wood fired kilns to learn about the different styles of kilns while enjoying the community that comes together to make firing possible. These are the pieces from those kilns.
  15. From the album: Handmade Paint Brushes

This handmade paintbrush has an ebony handle that I turned on the lathe. (I believe that the lathe is a natural for potters, it's just like a wheel but side ways) I made the ferrule on the wheel and then high fired it with shino. I built the brush head out of white tail deer tail hair, it's a great hair for holding slip and glaze.
  16. From the album: Wood Fired

This cup was side fired on shells, the ash build up ran nicely down the finger grooves.
  17. From the album: Pottery Tools

This rib is great for plates. The long curve with just enough sweep to dish the dish and the short curve to detail the rim. Beautiful wood just makes it that much more fun to use.

I fired this cup in my gas Olympic test kiln. I am just starting to get the hang of of getting carbon build up in this kiln. It really wants to go oxidation.
  19. From the album: High Fire

Deep rib work and dynamic brush strokes play across the surface of this yunomi softened by shino.
  20. From the album: High Fire

This yunomi was fired to cone 9 in my small Olympic updraft gas test kiln. I really didn't get the body reduction that I was after but this particular shino looks great in reduction or oxidation.
  21. From the album: High Fire

This is also from my first firing of my Olympic gas test kiln. I was able to get a pretty good carbon trap atmosphere in this test kiln. I started reduction at about cone 012 and kept it in reduction until about cone 06.
  22. From the album: High Fire

I just got an Olympic updraft gas kiln that I have fired for the first time. I had been warned that it was difficult to fire to cone 10 but I found with a digital pyrometer it was an easy fire.
