  1. Very sad news, I will not be able to take ceramics next semester...it looks like my hobby will be put on hold for quite some time, as we currently do not have the finances to set up the rest of the necessary equipment in our current space.

$20 per item??? That does not make any sense. Lump it together until you have like 5 for $20 or something. The rates here just to use the facilities are insane.

Denice - there are few local shops. Our least expensive one is over an hour away and charges $120 per week with no instruction. No one does just firing/glaze of outside work. I found one woman in a closer city but she charges $250 per week.

Thank you all, I agree it is not gone, just on hold. Once we move and get settled in I am sure I will be able to start up again. The clay scene is terrible, nothing until you get deep into LA which is over an hour away. I will keep my wishlist handy just in case...

Since it is mostly the inlaws space they are not keen on the idea of me setting up a studio there. Their house their rules unfortunately. We are trying to move in less than two years to SLC, so things are quickly making things hard to continue. ):

Haha, I would not know! The professor gave it to us. From her horse. I forgot to use the lions mane we had left over too (yes real lion, we have a teaching zoo on campus).

  8. Student Ceramics Sale is tomorrow, putting a few of my best pots up for sale. Great way to see others work, professors are very encouraging.

Sale is going great so far. Sold over 3/4 of my pieces. I think they are running it today too, so I will pick the left overs up next week.

Yes! I kept my favorites, the strawberry pot in my gallery was one, as well as a few mugs. My stuff got so much more even-walled and light towards the end of the semester, you can really see the difference in just 3 months. Excited to go again next semester!

It is two days long, the school hosts it all day so I can work, they get a commission so it is win win. I will go in Thursday and see!

  12. Bought an 8" Samsung tablet last week but came to the true realization that I have no use for it. It's being returned tomorrow...

Between a smart phone and laptop I would not have a use for one. I can see how for children it would be fun for games.

^ that is really the best use for them. Unless you read e-books, use it for marketing meetings, or don't have a laptop they more or less are useless. I don't know why my brother has two, plus his smart phone, and an ipod touch....

Any glaze books on what each material is and used for? IE: copper is for oranges, yellows, blues and reacts like x,y,z in these conditions....

Nerd - absolutely. I read so fast I could go through several books a day.

Evelyne - I think I will read books on glazing while knitting....let's see how that works.

  18. I am finding it liberating to get rid of so much I don't need, haven't seen in decades, and will not have room to store in our next house. Much of what doesn't sell will go to Library, charities and the dump.

It was great moving off our boat because there was no furniture, bed, dishes, or accessories to bring with us! Just clothes and some personal items. Letting everything go is awesome!

  24. packing, sorting and getting ready for a garage sale. 2 trips going to the dump with AC vents that were left in the attic. Sorting through my Spanish pottery collection that I haven't unpacked in 27 years. There is a lot of things I really don't need.
