Left- zinc added to base clear glaze. Right- clear base. Fired to cone 3 in oxidation. Zinc reacted to hematite, magnetite, and iron disulfide bodies.

yes, that is part of the equation. Several other parameters I am going to test as well. Glaze interaction with iron is on the table currently.

1. Hematite. 2. Pure clay( no additions) hematite. 3. Hematite with 3% TiO2 added. 4. Magnetite 5 Newman Red. 6. Red Art. All samples fired in oxidtion.

You have it. Once pores open up within the body: game over. I have looked at many stoneware samples under the scope; seen few that did not have some level of imperfections.

Blisters indicate pressure, especially if they have raised rims. The holes are only 1/32 or so, but 200x makes them look huge. However, it is enough to cause weeping. Bubbles are normal for off gassing spars and can be remedied. Blisters, even if a few typically indicate the body has been compromised. Bubbles can come from a glaze, and sometimes blisters: but blisters more often come from the clay; sulfides and spars.

Most interesting. I see a bit of translucence, a bit of bone china, and the effects of Parian. Think you have dialed into a technique that works. I can certainly see market appeal.

Are you planning on adding tusks? Symmetry looks right to me. You plan to mold this for a bronze cast?
