I have taught several young people (13 to 16 year olds) in my "adult" evening classes. They are awesome additions to the classes and are eager to learn. My experience has been very positive and I enjoy watching the interaction of young and not so young as they travel together on their clay journey. The young are very respectful and helpful when exposed to respectful and helpful "not so young".

I have a beginning wheel class starting tomorrow night with a very nice young man (13) and his sister (17). They attended a raku night last Saturday and fit right in with the adults. I am looking forward to having them in my class!!! Awesome young adults give me faith in the future.

Oliviine got a reaction from Rae Reich in Clay Contamination Or Something Else? (Long)
I added some photos for reference, but now have a solution.

I spoke to the manufacturer, and the clay has undergone several minor reformulations, and is now 'higher in salts'. A few people have reported the issue since late last year, but a major reformulation is coming as the particular clay deposit is almost depleted.

The solution to overcoming the problem is to bisque for a minimum of eight hours, pushing the temperature to 1080-1110C rather than the 1000C we use at present. Additionally, soak at top temperature for 0.5-1 hour.

I'm glad I have a solution, but the manufacturer confirmed the body is now less white (amongst other things), which is a bit disappointing. Hopefully they will address that.

Thank you all for the brain power...

Have you ever played through an album of Dream Theater, or their early stuff with no vocals, Liquid Tension Experiment(LTE)? I highly recommend that if your into progressive rock with lots of chord progressions and layered harmonies. Can't beat LTE. I am highly into progressive metal/rock. I listen to a lot of it when I am driving at high volumes down the major highways. I used to have a fast car, it was not good for speed control. 90-100MPH all the time. Now I have a wife and kid. I stay in the slow lanes.

I find LTE improves my thought process when I used to program as well. You get highly focused because there is no lyrics and you get zoned into the task at hand very quickly. I should try listening to them while I throw. Number 2 on that link, Osmosis is almost meditative to me.

Ha! With you on Steele, RIP. Emperor, not bad! My husband is a total metal head (Darkthrone, Morbid Angel), while I like a bit of Opeth, Katatonia, and Edge of Sanity, myself.
Emperor..."not...bad?" Oh, my inner metalhead just went into a siezure. "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk" is one of the greatest metal albums in black metal history! "In the Nightside Eclipse" is also amazing, but "Anthems..." I've been rocking that album since the day it was released and it STILL gives me chills! It pretty much changed my life as a wee blossoming extreme metalhead guinea. Dimmu Borgir's "Enthroned Darkness Triumphant" and Iron Maiden's EVERYTHING aided in that as well. And Opeth, of course. Mikael Ã…kerfeldt and I have the same birthday!

@Grype: I LOVE Dream Theater! I can't believe I forgot to mention them, derp!!
