    Pendant Lights I make

these are porcelain pendant light that I make
  2. From the album: Pendant Lights I make

I made a stamp of some trees, mixed it with a purchased tree stamp and poked a lot of holes in the porcelain. Wasn't sure how to spell the word Picotee- doesn't it need an accent over one of the e's? This one is my ode to xc skiing, when its snowing but very quiet- i.e. all you can hear are your skis in the snow.

The only thing I can't figure out is why there are drops of clear dark green glaze on the side of the bottom left mug.
  4. From the album: Pendant Lights I make

It worked! The black even has some shadows- like a puppet show- have to come up with some different sorts of patterns to try next.
  5. It worked! I only had one piece separate at the contact between the black & white clay and you can't see it - it was another lamp behind the two up top. It was a landscape type pattern and it was a land/water edge that separated- I think I'll keep it.

mixing black clay (20% iron oxide) with translucent white porcelain- didn't check the shrinkage first so this is a gamble.
  8. unloeaded the salt & soda kilns today & posted the pictures in the gallery of some of my things.

From the album: Salt & Soda Firings

I like the shape but it needs some refinement and I may use more glaze & less slip next time!

  14. I have an old Paragon from the 70's and I am getting new elements right now & a new kiln-sitter part. They do seem to keep going with a bit of maintenance and definitely not as expensive as keeping an old Volvo running!
  15. Just had an issue trying to fire some items with slip that contained iron chromate at a city studio. I wasn't aware that iron chromate was that toxic but I am now. I'm saving them though to fire in an outdoor gas kiln. A lot of old glaze ingredients can be hazardous but I agree with you Mark about risks and handling things safely.
  16. yep- its a mid range porcelain called polar ice- probably like frost.
