This way you can see very concretely whose day you made richer because you shared your work.

Gabby got a reaction from liambesaw in I am finally back in the studio, hand- building. It is 23 degrees and I am snowed in.
In fact at 6:30AM I was at my table, carving a border onto a plaque. I have never made anything big and flat, so we will see how it survives. It is going to have an image "painted"in underglazes, including some oranges I am trying. [Now would I have called it hot here today? It was 34'.]

good for you!   if you really need some clothes, the thrift shops around here put everything in the store on sale for 50 percent off each monday.   when the original price for jeans is $5.99, you can see why i have a pile of them.   got a cashmere sweater for $5.00 last week.

Gabby got a reaction from Min in Over this past weekend I had a conversation with a woman who’s dad has mild dementia.
What a wonderful thing to be able to do for her. As dementia challenges a person's ability to communicate with other people, animals can be a particular blessing.

My landlord has been wonderful about allowing me to install the electric kiln (closed in back porch) & a studio (was the bedroom) in my trailer, but there is not an inch of space to spare & I'm not permitted to do anything out in the yard.  I did get my pieces done though, & will bisque this week.

When my work is good enough, I hope to contribute it to auctions, not at the level of a PBS station but more of a local non-profit.  I am so glad when I hear that people whose work can really make a difference choose to donate it in this way.

I wish you a very good recovery from the sprain. I hope the cat and the view from your studio offer some quality time while you stay off that foot. [I broke a foot a few years ago and was very lucky my dog was a bulldog who wasn't much for long and speedy walks anyway].

It's a wonderful career to have, Joseph. I too have been an economist but have spent the last twenty years teaching secondary math with a middle grades specialty.

Gabby reacted to Benzine in Sad to hear that the world of ceramics is not exempt from it predators . Have a look
The world has its share of bad, or even terrible people and events.  It can be overwhelming,  and discouraging, when we are hearing stories about nothing but.
However, I believe that there is just as much good, if not more so.  The reason, we don't hear about these kinds of (good) people or events as much, is because they are the norm.  It is expected that people will do the right thing.  It is expected that things will work out for the best.  These things are not news, because they are the everyday.
Stories about terrible people and events become news, because they are so different and shocking.  But we need not dwell on them any longer than necessary.  Otherwise we can lose hope, and start to see those terrible things as the new norm, and that is a path we don't want to go down, as a society.

Gabby reacted to Pres in First of Communion presentation sets went out. 13 more to go out. Honey jars and mugs
They are the chalice and paten sets. They are used as a presentation to ordinands into the ministry with high community service, academic achievement and religious commitment. It is called the Hickman award. I have them posted in last years blog postings. My sets are completed with the Order of St. Luke logo, stamped on the plates which are actually larger than the standard paten that was used with the wafers for communion, but of late the churches are going to the broken bread communion and intinction. Intinction requires a wider bowl on the chalice to allow for dipping of the wafer or bread. Almost too wide to be drinkable, but not quite.

    best,
