  3. Is anyone else not liking the new sign in page, besides me? There's no "Remember Me" option in which to keep myself logged in. Very annoying!

I haven't changed a dang thing, GEP. The change came from CAD. It used to be so easy. Stop by, see what new vids are up...then trundle on in to here. For crying out loud people! If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT!!! >:(

No snow in the future I'm Okay with that. Suppose to be 62 today even warmer tomorrow.

Amy, you're welcome to my share of snow that falls my way!!!I've seen it a few times which satisfied any curiosity!

  5. Totally loving my new shrink gage ruler that I bought from Axner. Just hold it up to a piece that is similar and size that I want to make and make my work to that size! No more scrapping something because it's too big or, as is usually the case, too small! Weeeheeheeehee!!!

      GiselleNo5

      I need this! Sounds amazing!

  6. Ordered me up a pair of measuring rulers that take into account shrinkage! Can hardly wait for them to arrive!! :D

Axner has them. And I just got an email notification this morning that they're out for delivery TODAY!! If it weren't so freaking cold, (just 3F this morning!) I'd park my butt next to the mail box and wait for them!!! Hahahaha! Maybe I'll just spend my morning in cleaning the studio until they arrive. Lordy knows it could use it!:P

My shrink ruler is from Creative Industries in El Cajon, CA. It's 6 and 10% on one side 12 and 14 on the other. It's a fat plastic ruler. I have seen it listed on ceramic stores on-line. I bought mine at the Fort Worth NCECA.

  7. I has SNOW!!! Happy dance! Happy dance!!! :D

Thank you! I'll take it! We're in our 4th year of drought. If we don't get a ton of snow this winter, I shudder to think how bad the fires might be come summer....not to mention the agriculture needs, as well as the needs of people and wildlife. We REALLY need every drop of rain and flake of snow we can get!!!!!

  8. I have declared the upcoming week to be MY week to get back into the studio. After nearly 4 days without power (thanks a peach there, Mother Nature!) and numerous doctor appointments, surgery and recovery time for my beloved husband, after Monday's doctor appointment for him, I'll finally have the better part of the whole week to myself and my studio!! Finally! MUD TIME!!!

That storm was absolutely INSANE. David and I drove from Cheney to Davenport in that mess and it was SCARY. D:

Thankfully, I didn't have to drive anywhere at that time. Glad you got home safe. How many tumbleweeds did ya have to dodge dear lady?!

Tell me about it! I think I made more slip than actual handles! :P LOL!

    4. alabama

      alabama

Pulled handles are the best. I've seen handles thrown on à wheel, rolled on à table, and of course extruded. I'd rank them 1. Pulled, 2. Extruded, 3.rolled,4. Thrown.

  10. Chicken coop cleaned? Check! Grocery shopping done and put away? Check! Now it's ME time. Look out studio. Here I COME!!!! :D

Whoo! On Wednesday I spent three hours in mine. I avoid it like the plague but when I clean a burst of creativity always follows. :)

  12. Weehheeeheeeheeee!! My new pyrometer arrived today. Now I can do Raku any old time I want!!!! :D

  13. I'm beginning to think that the Kiln Gods hate me! :(

    1. Celia UK

Oh no Amy - the best and worst part of ceramics to my mind. Joy opening a successful glaze fire, distress opening an unsuccessful one! I'm making assumptions here of course.

    2. Denice

      Denice

Maybe you need to make a little kiln god before every firing.

    3. Amy Eberhardt

      Amy Eberhardt

Well, the Kiln Gods hate my kiln at the very least. Here we go again. Another $100 to get her back up and running right. Somebody kindly explain to me why one can buy two infinite switches for the price of ONE 3 heat switch! I'd really like to know! *sigh* Oh well, it is what it is. When I inherited this kiln, it was likely in need of a complete overhaul anyhow. She's still cheaper than buying new. For the moment. That could change suddenly. :(

  14. Mine!! Mine!! MINEMINEMINEMINEMIIIIINE!!!!
  15. Fired up the kiln at 4:00AM. Nice little load of test tiles and a few experiments.

  16. Bisque fire done firing. Now to practice my patience mode and wait to open it tomorrow morning. Gaaaaah!!! I haven't got a patient bone in my body!!!

You are brave Alabama ... Around my house some other animal would dig up that tasty bulb then the whole story would end badly!

    3. alabama

      alabama

Chris - I can't think of any vermin that eats our Jonquil, i.e. Dafodil bulbs. We have possums which become roadkill while eating roadkill. We have "possums on the half shell",

      a.k.a Armadillos

which eat worms and grubs. Thats why we can put bulbs at graves and mark

property lines, to keep surveyors accurate.

I love the Rainbow Bridge poem. I share it with friends who have lost their pets. Always brings a tear to my eye.

  18. 12 hours and STILL haven't reached ^5, new elements not withstanding. Please, Oh Mighty Kiln Gods, show mercy on this tired old worry wort. Let the kiln sitter trip already!!!

Bloody hell, that's a stresser. I usually fire that slow anyway, hehe. My glazes like lotsa time to bubble and melt... :)

    3. Amy Eberhardt

      Amy Eberhardt

I'm pleased with the results of some pieces, and less than thrilled with others. And some of them are growing on me...kind of like mold!

    4. Denice

      Denice

That is a long firing you might ask in the Equipment and Repair section if there is something else you need to replace. I know they replace other parts when I had mine rewired.

  19. Holy Mother of Pearl! Now I know why kiln shops charge so freaking much to install new elements!!! That's quite a job!

Yeah, don't scrimp on elements. But it's good to have it done, isn't it?

    3. Amy Eberhardt

      Amy Eberhardt

Yes it is Roberta! Not something I care to repeat any time soon. Thankfully, I don't fire all that often, so this kiln should now outlive me! ;)

      Cavy Fire Studios

Omfg, I hear you, sister. I have an old kiln, too, and changing his elements woulda tested the patience of Mother Theresa! It's really great crimping those dang wires with arthritic hands, too. Argh!

  20. Just when I thought I was safe to resume the new element installation on my kiln, the little neighbor boy comes over hoping for his second lesson on wheel throwing. Bless his 7 year old little soul.....Now I'm WAY behind schedule!

  21. Squeeeeee!!!! Husband is at Clay Art Center Tacoma and picking up my new kiln elements!! And even better yet, he's picking up 5 lbs each of clear and white dry mix!! I IZ A HAPPY CAMPER!!!!!! Yipeeee!!!

  22. No amount of offerings to the Kiln Gods would have helped yesterday. Maybe an offering to the electric element gods would have been a better idea. I've found out the hard way that I need all new elements in my 25 year old Skutt. *sigh* Poor old girl. She had enough ompf to get half way up the hill but not all the way. Anybody know where I can get elements on the cheap?

      Cavy Fire Studios

Awwww, poor kid. :( You could have hubby pick up an order from CAC in Tacoma. They'll take the order over the phone and have it ready.

That's exactly what I did this morning Guinea. At least I can save $20 on the shipping. ;)

I watched a british potter's video who put a cup with wine in it on top of his huge gas kiln.... crazy. he said he didn't know if there were kiln gods or not, but better safe than sorry.

I've read accounts of Japanese potters setting offers of sake near the kiln.

  25. 7:05 AM, Rock and ROLL!!!! Fired up a bisque load this morning. Countdown to 8+ hours, if this load goes anything like the last one. I iz a happy camper!
