  1. Just when I thought I was safe to resume the new element installation on my kiln, the little neighbor boy comes over hoping for his second lesson on wheel throwing. Bless his 7 year old little soul.....Now I'm WAY behind schedule!

  2. Squeeeeee!!!! Husband is at Clay Art Center Tacoma and picking up my new kiln elements!! And even better yet, he's picking up 5 lbs each of clear and white dry mix!! I IZ A HAPPY CAMPER!!!!!! Yipeeee!!!

  3. No amount of offerings to the Kiln Gods would have helped yesterday. Maybe an offering to the electric element gods would have been a better idea. I've found out the hard way that I need all new elements in my 25 year old Skutt. *sigh* Poor old girl. She had enough ompf to get half way up the hill but not all the way. Anybody know where I can get elements on the cheap?

Awwww, poor kid. :( You could have hubby pick up an order from CAC in Tacoma. They'll take the order over the phone and have it ready.

That's exactly what I did this morning Guinea. At least I can save $20 on the shipping. ;)

I watched a british potter's video who put a cup with wine in it on top of his huge gas kiln.... crazy. he said he didn't know if there were kiln gods or not, but better safe than sorry.

I've read accounts of Japanese potters setting offers of sake near the kiln.

Because the world was taught to stay out of the mud by their mom!!! LOL I never listened ...

  7. Guinea, I'm heading over to Tacoma in a couple of weeks. Yes, a stop at CAC is planned. If you need anything, let me know. I could pick it up for you. Any chance to save on shipping is always welcome, right? WCR, I'm so glad to hear that everything pretty much survived unscathed. My sister found one of Monkeyshines little treasures about 5 years ago while out walking the dogs. She lives in the north end in a 108 year old Victorian/Craftsman home on Oaks street. It's sad to think that this wonderful arts community outreach project may be coming to an end. If you have connections with the po

  10. Please, please, tell us what you used to achieve this beautiful finish! Inquiring minds need to know!
  11. So wish I had known you when you made this cuz whoever bought it wouldn't have had a chance at it!
  12. I knew if I got off of my lazy butt and went looking, I'd find it! Here's the video on how to make your own hand held extruder. Gotta love this one! Entertaining too. http://ceramicartsdaily.org/ceramic-studio-equipment/clay-extruders/video-tip-of-the-week-make-your-own-hand-held-clay-extruder/
  13. I know just which one you're talking about, and if memory serves me, it's somewhere in the video archives here, around about page #11, or maybe it was page #13? Just look around in that vicinity and you should be able to find it. It uses 1 1/2 inch pvc pipe, pvc test caps and the cheapest calk gun you can get at HD. I've rounded up all of the requisite materials to make mine. Now I just need the time to sit down, drill the test caps to make the extrusion shapes I want and put it all together. Too bad one can't buy time as easily as materials!
  14. One of those rare winter days in the Inland NW where it was sunny and 50F. Didn't get any throwing done, but ooooweeee! You should see how nice and clean the chicken coop is now! LOL!
