    wave Jar

Thanks! You just throw a fully closed off shape, then take a paint key or some other similar shaped object and create a groove which will become the lip the lid sits over. Cut apart when leather hard then trim lid and jar until they fit.

Perpetual Motion may not be real, but Perpetual Non-Motion is very real...

A day off for rest is a good thing...but think how that clay feels: abandoned, missing the human touch, unwanted (is guilt working?) :)

Yes, I lovingly fondled the clay for 5 hours today, not in a dirty way....well the clay was dirty but...you know what I mean

    wave Jar

From the album: My nautical stuff

This is a jar I threw in one piece, incised the lid then trimmed them apart. The whole piece is covered in various engobes and underglazes, carved and fired in an electric kiln.

    Bell Wip

From the album: Works in progress

Working on this little hand bell. It's thrown and painted with blue engobe then carved. It has a bit of high temp wire shoved into the high point of the bell which I will hang the ringer from.
  5. Good surprise! I love the contrast between rough and smooth, like and dark, and earthy and delicate. Nice job!

This vase is about 6 square. I threw it then carved grooves in the top and bottom. The grooved sections get a couple coats of black engobe because I like the way the glaze looks over the black. The middle is black engobe with paper branches then blue engobe then the paper is peeled off. It has commercial glazes and was fired to cone 6 in my electric kiln. I tried to get fancy with the picture.

  9. Thank you. It was an experiment. I don't make many teapots.
  10. Trimmed the last pot of 2014 yesterday. 15 is not as easy to carve as 14 I think.

  11. Carving words on pots. That's new for me. Can't use white out on my mistakes though!

I draw/ write on printer paper first, that is roughly the size of my ware. I then lay it on the ware, and trace over the drawings on the paper, with a dull pencil or pen. It leaves a small indent, that can be easily smoothed. If it looks good, I go ahead with the actual carving.

Thrown tumbler with leaves slip decoration. The top is hand carved, and it's glazed in 3 commercial glazes and fired in my electric kiln to cone 6.
  14. At some point in the day I will throw some cups! Yes, it's going to happen!

  15. From the album: Favorites

This one is fresh from my latest firing. I'm in love with this one. It's wheel thrown with a pulled handle, underglaze decoration, and hand carved texture. It's glazed in 3 different commercial glazes and fired in my electric kiln.
  16. This is adorable! I want to hug him!

This one I have made a lot of. I keep changing up the handle with each set until I have it perfect. Wheel thrown with applied engobe, sgraffito, hand textured. Fired ^6 electric with commercial glazes.

Goblets are just plain fun to make. This is another of my signature patterns. I love the combination of glazes and engobes on this piece. Wheel thrown, with engobe and sgraffito. Commercial glazes, fired to ^6 electric.

I don't make many teapots, but I had the idea for this teapot with a hollow wave cut out of the body. It was an experiment, and it's not perfect but I still really like this piece. Wheel thrown and hand built with applied engobe and underglaze, sgraffito and hand painted waves. Fired to ^6 electric.

I do a lot of this nautical wave pattern on my pieces. this was the first cup I stacked 2 of the patterns on top of each other. I actually meant to glaze the interior with a different liner but I really liked the combination anyway after it was fired. applied engobe, with sgraffito, commercial glazes. Fired ^6 electric.
