Cavy Fire Studios got a reaction from Callie Beller Diesel for a gallery image, Mr. Shrike's Head
The final result of my first animal head sculpture. I'm quite pleased with how this turned out--as you can imagine, I was sweating when this piece was in the kiln!! My fella, its intended and current owner, was extremely happy when he got it for Christmas. <3

Sculpted from Clay Art Center (of Tacoma)'s Xtra White lowfire earthenware, painted with Amaco, Mayco, Duncan, and Clay Art Center underglaze, fired to ^03.

I cannot believe how wonderfully bright these colors turned out! The terracotta didn't alter the underglaze at all. Soooo happy with this chubby lil' guy!

Cavy Fire Studios reacted to ChenowethArts for a gallery image, Handbuilt (Mostly) Mugs
These are my prototypes for a new direction in hand-building...at least mostly hand-building. I have never been completely satisfied with the resulting rims on hand-built mugs, so I have incorporated wheel-thrown rims that feel so much better on the lips. The k-cup in the image is simply to add something appropriate for scale...and wouldn't be part of a sale *grin*. All of these are 12-14 oz. mugs and the style and production technique are very similar to the work of Sandra Blain (Thanks, Sandy!).

Cavy Fire Studios reacted to ChenowethArts for a gallery image, Keyboard Mug - Note Handle
This is a 14oz-16oz wheel-thrown, stoneware mug with slab-built (black only) keys attached to a carved/altered keyboard design. The handle idea is NOT original but borrowed/copied/altered from another artist's project. When I find the name, I will certainly give proper attribution. Interior is glazed with Woo's Blue. Exterior details are black and white, brushed-on, Amaco Velvet underglazes with a top coating of clear.

This is a concept mug for a commissioned gift project that is currently underway. The basic form and structure may remain the same but the color scheme for the actual project will be altered considerably.

Cavy Fire Studios reacted to BHClaysmith for a gallery image, CUTEsie Scent Bottles
A pair of hand built CUTEsies (about 4" tall) glazes in 2 layered glazes - a dark green from John Hesselberth which was lifted then glazed over with Oribe from the Community Arts Center in Wallingford, PA. Both CUTEsies were impressed with patterns from my line of Intaglio impressing mats for clay available at https://www.etsy.com/shop/BHClaysmith

This is strictly a whimsical demo experiment of taking a wheel-thrown vessel and doing several treatments on it. This one has been pinched, paddled, appended stamped, textured and converted to a pouring pot. The 'pun' is a little more sublet (for some at least).

Love dragons and have fun making yarn bowls. So did a dragon's egg yarn bowl. Lots of fun since it is a bit unique and creates a nice surface to play with glaze combos. Amaco ancient jasper under dark green.
