  1. Do other people smell it, or just you? When I had Covid, I smelled smoke like cigarettes, but no one smokes. If other people, smell it, do your neighbors have the same smell?
  2. Yes, Pres, thank you for your work! I don't contribute much, but I learn a lot here. I check the forums daily and pick up stuff I didn't even know I was missing! When I first started pottery, 10 years ago, I was self taught and learned a lot from Facebook's Clay Buddies group, but I guess I have advanced to needing more technical info from the experts and I can find that here. Thank you all!
  3. I had some alumina fall inside a teapot. Does anyone know if that is food safe? The interior is white, but you can see it even after it was fired. Would the lemon test be indicative?
  4. I haven't purchased anything from him in over a year, but he has made 4 tools for me over the years without any issues and I was always pleased. He always consulted with me about a personalized fit for the handle etc and seemed to take pride in his work and packaged them well. He also repaired a tool that I had dropped on a cement floor. I paid as a "friend" too, but understood it as a way to avoid PayPal fees. I wonder if there is something wrong with his health? I'm sorry this happened to you.
  5. I've noticed that the key, to whether the alumina is difficult to remove, is not using too much, regardless of the clay. I only fire to cone 6 (using pyrometric cones) and havd had it happen, so I am now more careful as to how much I apply. I apply it with water, not wax. Good luck!
  6. What Hulk said as well! I photograph before pricing because now I make the price visible as opposed to putting it on the bottom. I used to think having the customer pick it up to see the price might help sell it, but why have them pick it up if they aren't gonna like the price anyway? I would be interested in how everyone polishes the feet on their wares. I usually just be sure to smooth the feet before the bisque fire, but would like to refine that post glaze fire.
  7. I used Amaco Potter's Choice Indigo Float a few years back and found it very easy to use. It really works well with texture too.
  8. The cost of groceries, cars etc has also gone up in the last 2 1/2 years or so. Its very concerning on all counts.
  9. I miss my 96# German Shepherd. We had to let him go at 13, but it was a wonderful life! I still have my kitty, Zorro, who loves the studio! He is wonderful to have around and has never ruined anything, which I can't even say for myself!
  10. Thank you! I feel better that their requirements weren't clear to someone with more experience. The 4x6 threw me off, but setting the pixels at 600x900 max is very helpful. I save my images in JPEG so I think I should be ok then. I use Windows and will look for a good free app. I really appreciate the sharing of knowledge here!
  11. I know this topic was mentioned in previous posts, but I am having trouble resizing images to an exact measurement. I have done some image resizing, but the show I want to apply to specifies "4x6" "JPEG" images "between 72 and 150 px" and I don't know how to make ALL of that happen! Any advice or reference to a previous post, would be greatly appreciated!
  12. I use Laguna MS-67 and really like it. I acquired a big batch a while ago, so I don't know the current pricing. It works well for me on Laguna 65 and Standard 563.
  13. I accidently came upon a technique that buyers seem to love; I love it too. I was a real novice and just playing around on one piece in which I scraped off some glaze on a bisqued and dipped piece resulting in texture and a view of speckled clay. I tried avoiding the dust of dried glaze by using wax as a resist for slip instead, but the look isnt nearly as beautiful. For now, I'm wearing a respirator and performing the task outside, changing my clothes after. I am not a mass producer, so I am ok with this til I find a new aesthetic; not always easy to do!
  14. Is gertsley more important when putting the colorant on top of a glaze? I've used it alone as a wash on greenware, bisqued, then clear glazed and that seems ok so far. In the video, he is putting the colourants on plates, so I assume he would have to test for food safety.
  15. what would result from using the oxides mixed with water, but without gertsley borate?
