I started throwing pots in 2002, when on a post-doc in aging studies. In both the ceramics and in the aging studies, I was interested in how we look at things, how our eyes process text as we age, how young artists described the shape of a vessel. These strategies for looking shape so much of what I do, and I continue to explore, in written text, and in pottery something about the politics of looking.
At the moment, I'm writing about risk assessment in technical communication and use examples from ceramics to suggest the challenges of communicating about safety. In addition to writing about the technical aspects, there's nothing better than having a studio two rooms away where I can still lose myself in the act of throwing. Change Signature
